CHALK TALKS FOR TRADERS - Easy Xs and 0s from a proven market pro. By Phil Storer

FAQ – Questions answered by Phil Storer:

Why did you write Chalk Talks for Traders - Easy Xs and Os from a Proven Market Pro? For some time it has been my wish to share some of the trading methods I have learned with others who have an interest in trading successfully. A couple of years ago I started to jot down some of my “trading recipes” and it has now become a book. I’m excited about the Chalk Talks for Traders – Easy Xs and Os from a Proven Market Pro because I know it will help so many people who want to trade for themselves.

Do you also do speaking engagements or seminars?
Yes. Through the years I keynoted and participated in speaking engagements and the occasional seminar. However, most of my time and effort has been spent looking for more efficient ways to trade and then trading. As a former coach, I know how to lead people and feel that I have a lot to teach. I would welcome more speaking opportunities.

How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career?
It was my dream in college to be a coach and I actually coached soccer at the college level for 3 years. At the same time it was my good fortune to teach in the public schools. Little did I know what great preparation that was for my future. The teaching and coaching combined with the agricultural background of my childhood all contributed to my entry into commodity futures trading. When I realized that the methods I used for trading commodities were also effective with stocks I began to work with them as well. It has been a special benefit for me to be in a position to work with many excellent traders over the years as we have shared ideas – many of which are presented in Chalk Talks for Traders – Easy Xs and Os from a Proven Market Pro.

What kind of other works (books, scripts, poems, etc.) have you had published?
In 1996, I published, Tricks of the Futures Trade, A Guide to Futures Trading by a 25-year Survivor for the benefit of my trading partners who were new to my methods. It was intended to help them get a better idea of what my thought processes were. Tricks of the Futures Trade, A Guide to Futures Trading by a 25-year Survivor also discussed some of the basic personality traits that frequently keep us from reaching the goals we’ve set. I think Tricks of the Futures Trade, A Guide to Futures Trading by a 25-year Survivor fulfilled its purpose because it is still referred to and used by many of those who read it years ago.

What will your next project be?
I am looking forward to teaching the concepts presented in Chalk Talks for Traders – Easy Xs and Os from a Proven Market Pro through seminars where I can exchange ideas with other traders – whether professional or the day trader. Another goal of mine is to produce a series of DVDs/webinars that will drive home the concepts presented in Chalk Talks for Traders – Easy Xs and Os from a Proven Market Pro and help traders experience the success they all anticipate.

What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?
I truly enjoy my role as a trader, analyst and coach. Interaction with my trading friends, particularly at times when I can help them reach their goal is hugely rewarding. I do well at predicting market behavior and find it quite rewarding each time a prediction comes true. There is enough randomness in markets to prevent me from ever being perfect but it is fun to keep trying.

What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?
Write about something you are really interested in and start by making notes of your thoughts whenever they come to you. You will reach a point of critical mass with your thoughts and at that time begin the manuscript. The notes you have kept will reduce or eliminate those times of “writer’s block” that can be so frustrating.

How did you get started as a writer?
By accumulating knowledge and using it successfully until I felt compelled to share it with others who were like me.

Which is your favorite book/work published? Is there a favorite?
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

What does a typical work day look like for you?
Monday – Friday I am up at 4:45 am and get to the office around 6:00 am. I check the premarket activity, re-read my commentary about the day that was sent out the previous afternoon then begin to look at the charts of the markets most interesting to me. By 6:15 am the phone begins to ring and I place trades, discuss strategies for a variety of markets and continue to monitor ongoing trades until about 4 pm. During that time, as different markets finish for the day, I write a daily commentary called Phil’s Words with targets and direction predicted for the next day. I am on the phone ninety percent of my day. After I check the trades of the day for accuracy, send out Phil’s Words, I head for the gym for an hour and a half then back home at about 6:30 pm.

Have you ever had a mentor, or someone who sparked your passion for writing?
I had an English teacher in high school, Vivian Strand, who never would give me a perfect grade because she insisted that perfection didn’t exist but constantly told me that I should be a writer. I liked the idea but never followed up on it until now.

Who is your favorite writer/author?
Charles Dickens and Dan Brown because of the way they prepare the characters and the settings for their stories. That is not to say that there is any true comparison between the two.

Tell me more about Phil’s Words and how do I receive them?
I have been publishing Phil’s Words for my clients for over 10 years now. During this time, I have been told that my projected price targets are hit over 80% of the time. If you are interested in receiving Phil’s Words, just send me an email at PhilsWords@ChalkTalkforTraders.com.

Just for Fun…what was the last song you sang out loud when you were by yourself?
A little chorus I learned in Sunday school when I was a kid that comes back to me sometimes when things get complicated or overwhelming. It has a catchy little tune and the words are simple. It goes like this – “My Lord knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow. My Lord knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow. Strength for the day is mine all the way and all that I need for tomorrow. My Lord knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow.” Hey, it works for me!
